Press Release: New Charity Challenge Rules Dramatically Increases the Amount of Funds for Participating Non Profits

Applications for the newly expanded 2016 Active International Rockland Boulders Charity Challenge are now available on the Rockland Boulders’ and Active International’s websites.  It marks the sixth year of the challenge and applications will be accepted through January 15th, 2016
 
The Charity Challenge is a season long promotion that calls for 12 different non-profits to have their own “game” during the Boulders season to raise funds, sell tickets and educate the public about their services. At the end of the season, the non-profit that has made the most money during their game is named the winner and gets to have a second fundraising day, on opening day of the following season. This year, for example, the winner was Friends of Jaclyn, who will be the opening game charity beneficiary on May 19th, 2016.
 
The Charity Challenge is being revamped this year in order to increase the amount of funds each participating organization is able to earn. Instead of the non-profit benefitting from the electronic 50-50 tickets sold during their game, tickets for the 50-50 can be sold from the day the Challenge begins in February, right through their game. This gives each participating organization the opportunity to sell 50-50s for months--at their events or other activities during the off- and pre-season--rather than just on one day. That increases the likelihood of the 50-50’s value being many times what it was in previous years.
 
The Boulders will make 50-50/ticket packages available to the participating organizations to encourage 50-50 holders to be present the night of the game to be part of the excitement of a large jackpot. While winners need not be present, the Challenge will have additional prizes for winners who are in attendance.
 
“We believe that expanding the length of time 50-50 tickets may be sold will dramatically increase interest in the Charity Challenge,” said Boulders President, Ken Lehner. “It will be great fun to watch the jackpots build and build to some very meaningful amounts for the non-profit and the lucky fan who wins by the time the winner is announced during the eighth inning of the game.”
 
Joe Allen, Senior Vice President, Community Affairs and Employee Communications at Active echoed Lehner’s sentiments. “The goal of the program was to increase visibility and make money for the non-profit community. There are so many important organizations involved in the Charity Challenge. Having the ability to sell 50-50’s for months leading up to the game will provide real impetus for the non-profits to reach out to their constituents.”
 
Applications will be available the week of November 30th and will be due back to the Rockland Boulders or to Active by January 15th. The 12 organizations chosen to participate will be announced prior to the end of January. The kick-off luncheon will be held once again in February.
